I keep talking about how big and gorgeous this house is and now you’re going to start to get to see it. If it were any other house and we had any other plans we would leave it exactly the way it is (well… maybe update some bathroom colors) and enjoy it. But when you plan to live in one place for the next forever you really want it to be perfect. There are just some things about the house that I am not super into; chiefly that the kitchen is on the opposite side of the home as the living and outdoor spaces and that the master bathroom is so small. Also, this super pink bathroom.
So we have ambitiously planned to take our relatively small renovation budget and focus on two major renovations before the wedding in September. First, we are completely gutting and redoing the HUGE pink guest bathroom. Next, we are RELOCATING the kitchen into what is currently the master bedroom and completely opening that room up to the living room. We decided to start by hiring an architecture/design firm to do a whole house plan so that we could see the big picture – which walls need to come down, which ones need to be shored up by a steel beam, where the master bathroom will eventually go so we feel more comfortable moving it, etc. We got the renovation plans back last week (well, the first draft of them) and I could not be more excited to make even more progress. I’ll be blogging about this renovation because it’s going to be a big part of the next few months. We’ll be trying to do as much of the work ourselves as possible to streeeeeeeetch our budget. 🙂 I hope it’s as interesting to you all as it is to me. I know I’m a total nerd and lifelong student but I have learned so many useful things in my various homeowner experiences, things I think would come in handy for everyone. So far we are just doing demo, which is a total workout.
